For some young people, writing is not only a means to an end but rather an essential part of who they are. Writing scholarships, creative writing scholarships, and essay scholarships are all excellent ways to put your talents to good use.

Writing scholarships can be divided into two main categories. The first kind of writing contest is geared toward students who are thinking about pursuing a career in writing. The second option opens up scholarship opportunities to individuals of all academic backgrounds who can exhibit superior writing skills. Nonetheless, this alternative does not limit participation depending on the student’s selected area of study or career aspirations.
We have compiled a list of ten of the most prestigious writing prizes open to high school and college students.
1. Immerse Education Essay Competition
Students in grades 13–18 who are participating in the Immerse Education Essay Competition will have the chance to respond in the form of an essay to a question that will be provided to them and will be related to the topic of their choice. There will be ten people who earn a scholarship worth one hundred percent, and there will also be rewards for runners-up.
Ten winners will each earn a scholarship worth one hundred percent.
The runners-up will each get a partial scholarship of up to fifty percent to go toward their education at Immerse in the subject of their choice. The number of runners-up will be decided based on the total number of submissions received as well as the caliber of the work that was offered for consideration.
In general, something in the range of 7% of applicants are awarded scholarship funds to attend an Immerse program.
The submission period for essays will close on the 4th of January 2023.
2. “Outstanding Undergraduate” Essay Scholarship
More than 2,000 four-year colleges and universities award bachelor’s degrees in the United States of America. However, students may be discouraged from pursuing enrollment at such institutions due to the high costs typically associated with doing so. We’re giving away an “Outstanding Undergraduate” College Scholarship, and it could be yours if you’re in a situation like this one. The goal of this scholarship is to help a promising undergraduate find the resources to pursue their post-baccalaureate education dreams. As a result, students will be selected to receive this scholarship based on the quality of the essays they have written and the number of scholarships they have applied for using the Scholarships360 website. Any U.S. citizen enrolled as a first-year student at a U.S. college or university that provides a four-year degree program is eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applying requires writing an essay detailing how a bachelor’s degree will help you reach your personal and professional goals.

This scholarship is open to current U.S. undergraduates attending accredited four-year institutions. Applicants must also meet the following requirements to be considered.
3. The Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship
Poet and American citizen Amy Lowell passed dead in 1925. In her will, she set up a yearly fellowship to help talented American poets with the cost of travel abroad. The scholarship will be administered by the Trustees at the Boston, Massachusetts law firm Choate, Hall & Stewart, per her instructions in her will. The Trustees encourage poets from all walks of life and cultures to apply as part of their mission to create a welcoming and diverse literary community.
As a suitable tribute to her memory, her fellowship aids talented American poets with their travel costs. Although this is not a scholarship designed for higher education, the funds can be put for things like tuition, books, and living expenses while overseas.
More than two hundred and fifty persons entered the most recent contest, but only two could be named winners. An application, resume, and a sample of poetry (up to 40 typed pages) are required from all potential candidates for this position. The selection committee clarifies that there is no minimum age for submissions of poems and that it is not necessary for candidates to have previously published their poetry in order to be considered, even if many of the most recent winners have already been published.
4. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship in Literature
Young people under the age of 18 who have demonstrated remarkable talent and academic achievement are eligible to receive one of three scholarship awards: $50,000, $25,000, or $10,000. To guarantee that each contribution is complete and accurate, we review it individually. The entries that match the criteria are then organized into categories and presented to a panel of unbiased judges made up of professionals in the respective fields. The judging panel may, but is not obligated to, consult with outside experts as necessary to make a fair determination of each entry.

The deadline for sending out annual notifications to potential candidates is always no later than July 15th.
5. Unpublished Writer’s Award
The Go On Girl! Book Club is a nationally recognized nonprofit that promotes women’s empowerment through reading. In order to promote writers from the Black African Diaspora, this group chooses a single book per month for its members to discuss and discuss in depth. Once in the spring and once in the fall, members of the Club get together to decide on a set of books to read together. Everyone in the book club reads the same book at the same time every month, discusses it in depth, and writes a letter to the author expressing their thoughts on it. Members of the literary community are recognized for their work each year at award ceremonies hosted by the organization. Since our organization’s founding in 1991, more than 30 chapters have been founded in various locations around the United States.
The prize is for one year only at a cost of $1,000 and is not renewable. Winners get an invite to the annual awards ceremony and can bring a guest. Her work may be featured in an upcoming issue of the quarterly Go On Girl! newsletter and/or on the website. The winners of this award will each get $1,000.
A work of fiction (either a short story or an excerpt from a novel) no longer than 2,000 words in length and formatted with double spacing should be sent via email.
6. Sloane Stephens Doc & Glo Scholarship
This grant will provide twenty students with financial support to help them achieve their
educational and professional ambitions. All graduating high school seniors and current college undergrads with a 2.5 GPA or higher are encouraged to apply.
In your application, please elaborate on the facet of your character that you are most pleased with and discuss the ways in which you believe it will serve you well in the future.
7. The Horror Writers Association Scholarships
All horror writers will be able to submit applications for the Horror Writers Association Scholarship (HWA membership is not a prerequisite) (HWA membership is not a requirement).
2014 marked the year that the first scholarships were given out. Scholarships will then be given out on an annual basis. Scholarships are offered to help aspiring and established horror writers advance their careers.
The submission process for each Scholarship will be the same; a subcommittee of the HWA Board will select the recipients, and those individuals will be made public each year.
The HWA Scholarship and the Mary Shelley Scholarship each come with a value of $2500 that can be applied toward recognized writing programs over the course of the two years that follow the awarding of the scholarship. It is strongly recommended that anyone interested in applying first read over the general application guidelines before moving forward.
8. BBB Torch Talk Scholarship
The Better Business Bureau Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and they’re offering this scholarship as part of their mission to inform consumers about their rights and responsibilities in the marketplace. Applicants must have graduated from a high school in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, or western Wyoming and must submit a 500-word essay on a given topic to the Better Business Bureau’s online magazine Torch Talk.
9. Curtis Holloway Memorial Scholarship
The goal of this scholarship is to alleviate some of the financial burden on a student who is either currently raising themselves or has lost a parent. You can apply for this scholarship if you are a high school senior or college freshman at a four-year institution and you are either a parentless child or a child in a household with only one parent.

10. Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship
The Carlos F. Garcia Muentes Scholarship will provide financial assistance to immigrant students across the country who have a love for education and a desire to improve their lives, as well as the lives of their families and communities, in order to make a positive contribution to the prospects of immigrant students in the United States.
This scholarship is available to those who:
Current undergraduate students
Undergraduate students from other countries who are studying in the United States
All immigrants, including those who arrived as children and those who arrived as adults
DACA recipients
